Making a referral to Good Pet Behaviour is simple! You can then relax in the knowledge that you are working hand-in-hand with appropriately qualified, skilled and experienced practitioners in Veterinary Behaviour. Be confident that your clients will appreciate the friendly, informative and supportive service. Dr. Carter and her associates can assist not only with consultations, but also provide support for you in managing cases in-clinic, and developing behaviour services within your clinic.
What happens in a referral behaviour consultation?
Initial consultations run for 2 – 2.5 hours for dogs, and 1 – 1.5 hours for cats. We are also happy to see birds, “pocket pets” and exotics, as well as horses and other large animals. Prior to the consultation the owner will need to return an extensive History Form which takes 30-60 minutes to complete. A copy of the veterinary history for the animal will also need to be e-mailed to info@goodpetbehaviour.com or faxed to Advanced Vetcare on 03 9376 8567. The referring veterinarian will be given information about Dropbox, the simple, easy-to-use, internet file-sharing system which will allow private and up-to-the-minute access to the reports and recommendations that Good Pet Behaviour makes about their clients.
Client information on what to expect and how to prepare for the consultation is available under Pet Solutions : Consultations – what to expect.
Either you or your client can phone Dr Gabrielle Carter directly if they have any questions, on 0433 151 730. This phone number can be given out freely.
During the consultation we will collect further history, explain to the owners why their pet is behaving the way it does, detail treatment recommendations and discuss prognosis. ‘Hands on’ time will be spent on demonstrating how to implement the recommendations. Both you and the client will receive a detailed report of the recommendations after the consultation. Phone and e-mail follow up will be available free of charge after the consultation for a period of 3 months
The referral process comprises the following steps:
- Client rings Good Pet Behaviour and schedules an appointment
- Client completes and submits the preliminary History Form
- Veterinarian e-mails or faxes medical history
- Diagnosis and treatment discussed in 1.5 – 2.5 hour consultation, in-clinic or at home
- Client receives full report and recommendations via e-mail or mail
- Veterinarian has access to the report and recommendations – which are continually updated as needed - via Dropbox
- Client has 3 months free follow up via phone or email
Dr, Gabrielle Carter and her associates consult at Advanced Vetcare in Kensington, and at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital, Werribee or Lort Smith Animal Hospital, North Melbourne. House-call consultations to most Melbourne suburbs can also be arranged. (Travel fees apply.)
